As a Mom, I need so many references about Islamic parenting. What should I teach to my son? How to know his talents and improve them ? And a lot of things that I have to do for him.
Talking about parenting, suddenly I remember surah Luqman. Yes, I find it. Why I didn’t use theses verses as my Parenting source ? How a stupid I am!
I must see these verses, try to understand and aplicate them.
Subhanallah, Allah had immortalized Luqman’s advices in Quran al Karim, using the name “ Luqman”, as one of a wonderful fathers in this world. Allaahu Akbar. Let’s learn these verses!
- Verse 12-13: It tells about Luqman as a wise father gave advices to his son about the important of thanks be to Allah, and asked him to avoid the association [ syirik ].
And we had certainly given Luqman wisdom [ and said ], “ be grateful to Allah.” And who ever is grateful is grateful for [ the benefit of] himself. And whoever denies [ His favor ]- then indeed, Allah is Free of need and Praiseworthy. ( verse 12 )
And [ mention, O Muhammad ], when luqman said to his son while he was instructing him, “O my son, do not associate [ anything ] with Allah. Indeed, association [ with him ] is great injustice.
( verse 13 )
- Verse 14-15: The importance for father to pay attention about his children’s education, how to teach them with Islamic Education base on Quran and Hadits. It also tells about the order to obey their parents. Although their parents are not muslims, the children should obey them and give their good manners to their parents. But, if the parents ask the kids to leave Islam , the kids shouldn’t to obey their asks. In this case, be faithful to parent is important and be faithful to Allah is most important.
And We have ejoined upon man [ care ] for his parents. His mother carried him, [ increasing her ] in weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the [ final ] destination.( verse 14 )
But, if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them but accompany them in [ this ] world with appropriate kindness.
(verse 15 )
- Verse 16-19: The explanation about Allah’s science. He is the owner of all sciences in the universe. Subhanallah. He only gives a very little of his sciences to all humans. So is so strange if the human arrogant to the other and feel the best than other. The parents should educate their kids with good manners/ character, and explain them to avoid contemptible character.
[ And Luqman said ] “ O My Son, indeed if wrong should be the weight of a mustard seed and should be within a rock or [ anywherre ] in the heavens or in the earth, Allah will bring it forth. Indeed Allah is Subtle and Acquainted. ( verse 16 )
O My Son, establish prayer , enjoin what is right, forbid what is wrong, and be patient over what befalls you. Indeed, [ all ] that is of the matters [ requiring ] determination. (verse 17)
And do not turn your cheek [ in contempt ] toward people and do not walk trough the earth exultantly. Indeed, Allah does not like everyone self- deluded and boastful. (verse 18)
And be moderate in your pace and lower your voice; indeed, the most disagreeable of sounds is the voice of donkeys. ( verse 19 )
From the verses above, now I know about Islamic Parenting. The first of all, is inviting to pray to Allah only, and implant strong faith
( iman ) in the child’s heart. Insha’Allah our kid will become good muslim and will give many benefits for this Ummah in the future. Ameen.
